2017 3rd Quarter President’s Message
Dear Members & Friends:
It’s been a very challenging but fulfilling 6 months leading the Chapter. I am glad to report we have already managed to provide more than 18 LU/HSW credits through the various programs we have organized ourselves and in collaboration with partnering organizations. Thank you and all the members who have been supportive and joined us for the various events, which have generally recorded a high level of attendance. We will continue to provide nearly a dozen opportunities to earn CES credits during the second half of the year through seminars, building tours and other activities.
Since the beginning of the year, we have also embarked on a journey to explore ways to enhance our Chapter’s management processes and services. For example, we have introduced online payment option for event registration, a practice that has long been adopted by other professional and trade associations. We have also updated the Honors & Awards design submission requirement to become paperless, hoping to improve processing efficiency and environmental friendliness. In addition, we have also established an Instagram platform to provide additional promotion to past design award winning projects.
The highlights for the third quarter will include: in July, our popular advanced technology series will feature the Shimao Wonderland Intercontinental Hotel, or Quarry Hotel, located at a stunning site but requires technical innovation to overcome design challenges. In August, we will continue with our Honor Award Tour, a special AIAHK 20++ initiative, by visiting the office of an interior architecture award winner to learn more about sustainable design. We will also organize our 3rd Quarterly Meeting featuring a panel of speakers familiar with opportunities for architects’ to practice in the ASEAN countries.
Finally, please note the deadline for submission for this year’s Honors & Awards design awards will be 5pm, Friday, August 4. Once again, no physical boards will be required, as the entire adjudication process will be handled digitally. Award jurors will include: James Wright, FAIA, President of AIA International Region and Marvin Chen, FHKIA, President of Hong Kong Institute of Architects. The full list of confirmed jurors will be announced shortly. Please also save the date, November 7, for our 20th Anniversary Cocktail Reception at PMQ Marketplace during which the results of the Honors & Awards will also be announced and celebrated.
I appreciate very much your continue support for the Chapter!
Rex Wong, AIA
