AIA Hong Kong – June President’s Message

Dear AIA Members and Friends:

Hope everyone enjoyed the festive Dragon Boat races and Tuen Ng celebration last weekend as we welcomed in the month of June.

Last month we were awash with Art, Design and Planning. On May 17th at Art Basel we had the pleasure of hosting a personally choreographed VIP tour of architecturally oriented sculpture and art pieces, led by Amy Woods.

Later in the month, it was a pleasure for our Chapter to serve as a supporting organization to our like-minded colleagues at the Urban Land Institute (ULI) during their Asia Pacific Summit.  Hong Kong’s Chief Executive, the Honorable CY Leung, was this year’s featured keynote speaker. Several of our AIA Hong Kong Chapter members spoke on important topics affecting our region, most notably Mr. Sean Chiao AIA, who discussed the emerging urbanization of the Pearl River Delta, and Ms. Sujata Govada, Associate AIA, who, with David Buffonge of Benoy, facilitated a workshop on urban transit-oriented development.

Please plan to attend our upcoming June events including: a tour of the Comix Home Base on June 14th, a roundtable discussion on Innovations in Sustainable Design to be held on June 17th, and a Brown Bag seminar covering the practicalities of Professional Liability Insurance on June 24th.

Also be reminded that the AIA Convention will be held in Chicago on June 25-28. I look forward to seeing many of you there!

This year, as Chapter members, we are all officially a part of the new “International Region” (IR) which means we are now represented at the world level by our IR President Ms. Christine Bruckner FAIA and IR Zone 2 Director, Mr. Peter Basmajian AIA. At the National convention we will be voting for both AIA National and for IR officers. So if you cannot attend the convention to vote in person please forward your proxy statement to the Chapter office with your expressed intentions, so we can vote on your behalf. For details, please contact Catherine or Vivian at the Chapter office.

Also –  remember to check www.aiahk.org frequently to keep informed about our upcoming local and regional events as well as a number of other related activities which we support.

With my best personal mid-year wishes,

2014 President – AIA Hong Kong Chapter – Christian Low, AIA
