AIA Hong Kong – March President’s Message

Dear AIA Members and Friends:

I hope everyone enjoyed their Chinese New Year break. It was certainly a wonderful holiday filled as ever, with the festivities of this marvelous season.

Last month, at our First Quarterly event of the year in February, we had the pleasure of co-hosting, with Asia Society Hong Kong, a fabulous lecture entitled “Humanizing Mega-scale” by the renowned international architect and educator, Moshe Safdie FAIA, CC. More than 200 participants joined us in what really was a memorable and inspiring evening.

Then just last week we enjoyed a fun musical, social and educational event staged at the Essess Showroom, featuring Kenneth Yun and BETRUE, who provided both the sound system and a delightful explanation about the modern recording techniques that made the Jazz and orchestral music we had the pleasure of listening to seem so “ three-dimensional.”

Looking ahead, please find the time to join us for our next technical seminar at the JEB showroom on March 11, where we will learn about new techniques for “Optimizing Office Space.”

Following that, on March 13, we will be hosting the first in a series of events featuring the latest innovative and “Advanced Materials,” new technologies, products, and research. The initial evening in this series will feature Dr. Toby Gill and other experts who are researching and utilizing Graphene, self healing concrete and other unique materials that have the potential to re-shape the future of the construction industry.

Later in March and April we plan to tour the new Zaha Hadid designed “Innovation Tower” building. We will also be hearing from the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) on their current sustainability initiatives and, beyond that, we are planning for a number of other special speakers, seminars, tours and events in the months ahead.

We look forward to seeing you all as often as possible throughout the year to share in the creative spirit of the AIA in Hong Kong. Please remember to keep up to date by viewing our new and improved website: www@aiahk.org
