Yanlord Peninsula, Suzhou, China
Winner:
Scott Findley, AIA, RMJM HK Ltd.
Award: Merit Award for Architecture
Responding to Suzhou traditional culture and environment, courtyard gardens are introduced to each townhouse unit, while white, grey, and charcoal grey express the basic facade color palette. Breaking with the traditional single volume of typical townhouses, interlocking blocks create unique and interesting elevations in each unit. Titanium zinc and copper cladding, which will oxidize and change color over time, are treated as highlighted features located randomly in the facades, bringing an evolving aesthetic to the site.
