AIA Hong Kong Chapter Elections 2014

Dear AIA Hong Kong Member,

As you know, AIA Hong Kong is a Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and is obligated to hold Chapter-wide elections each year for the following positions:

Vice President / President-elect
Secretary
Treasurer

Although these positions are voluntary and unpaid, it is important that qualified individuals contribute their time, experience and energy in whatever capacity they can to ensure that the Chapter continues to serve its members effectively.  The AIA relies heavily on the personal involvement and commitment of its members, so we encourage your participation either as an elected Officer or as a member of a Committee based on your area of interest. Note that self-nominations for these positions are also welcome.

Please click here for further details and send the completed Nomination Form(s) to the Chapter Office by 29 October 2014.  Your participation and involvement is greatly appreciated.

On behalf of the AIA Hong Kong Chapter, we thank you in advance for your support.

AIA Hong Kong – September President’s Message

Dear AIA Members and Friends:

I especially look forward to this mid-autumn time of year as the temperature in our part of the world moderates and we transition past the long, hot summer. This time of Lantern Festivals and moon-cakes is full of fond memories about our past and a shared spirit of excitement about what the future may bring.

Our Chapter recently had the pleasure of experiencing that warm feeling at the Grand Opening Celebration held August 21st at our new Office and Gallery space in the PMQ Creative Art Hub. It was a thrill to see so many long time friends and colleagues while reminiscing about the success of our organization over the past 17 years and its bright future ahead.

AIA Hong Kong – July President’s Message

Dear AIA Members and Friends:

The annual AIA Convention was held in Chicago on June 25-28. Several significant announcements emerged from the event this year:

Julia Morgan, FAIA, was posthumously awarded the AIA Gold Medal. A long overdue recognition, she became the first woman ever to receive this award.

New Orleans-based Architects Eskew+Dumez+Ripple were honored with the Firm of the Year Award. They were cited for, among other things, their use of “rigorously crafted Modernism to repair, restore, and enhance the unique cultural and historic context of their city.” Read more

Dear AIA Members and Friends:

Hope everyone enjoyed the festive Dragon Boat races and Tuen Ng celebration last weekend as we welcomed in the month of June.

AIA Hong Kong – May President’s Message

Dear AIA Members and Friends:

Hold onto your hats and umbrellas as the Monsoon season is clearly upon us!

Along with the whirlwind that is our spring weather in Hong Kong, May has become our defacto “Art, Design and Planning” month. Look out for the Art Basel show which is in town from May 15-18. Later in the month, between May 20-22, the Urban Land Institute (ULI) will be hosting their Asia Pacific Summit featuring seminars on a wide range of topics across a broad spectrum of Architecture, Planning, Property and Public Policy issues.

The AIA Hong Kong Chapter is pleased to offer a special architecture-oriented tour of Art Basel on May 17.  And, as we are a supporting organization of the ULI, they have offered those of our AIA members who are not already ULI members special rates for attendance at this, their seminal annual event. AIA Hong Kong – April President’s Message

Dear AIA Members and Friends:

We’re in the midst of a very busy spring season in Hong Kong and around the region, with lots of news and some key announcements to share.

First and foremost, I am pleased to announce that it is now official: the AIA Hong Kong Chapter will be moving into permanent office space in the design center at the recently renovated Police Married Quarters (PMQ) on Hollywood Road. This is a major step for the Chapter and represents our intention to reach out and connect even more directly with the local Hong Kong community. We hope this new space will provide an easily accessible, public interface for all to engage with the Chapter for many years to come. Design and planning is underway, construction will begin soon and we look forward to celebrating an open house in our new space by mid-2014.

AIA Hong Kong –
February President’s Message

Dear Members and Friends:

I would like to wish everyone a wonderful Chinese New Year blessed with happiness and health, and filled with great design ideas and golden moments.

Last month we kicked off 2014 with our first event at ArtisTree in Taikoo Place.  About 60 participants were treated to a detailed and insightful tour of the exhibition “Building M+: The Museum and Architecture Collection” by Mr. Aric Chan and Ms. Shirley Surya (Curator and Assistant Curator, respectively, of Design and Architecture at M+, the new museum for visual culture). Following the exhibition tour the group gathered nearby for a reception and discussion about how greatly the future M+ and its surrounding West Kowloon Arts and Cultural District will benefit Hong Kong. It was especially pleasant to meet a number of new faces amongst the group, some of whom were attending their first event with AIA Hong Kong.
