The four paradigms of urban mobility: autonomous, connected, electric and shared – are set to transform both the transport industry and the built environment. This webinar will provide an overview of fast-moving trends that are shaping our transport systems and outline their impacts on cities, communities, and major developments. It will look into such considerations as flexible and adaptive policy, design processes and such operational strategies as “mobility-as-a-service.” The webinar will also offer a brief discussion on how we may need to rethink transport resilience in the age of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ir Carmen Chu is the Director of Arup’s Transport Consulting team. She is a Chartered Engineer and qualified planner specializing in transport planning and traffic engineering. Her background enables her to appreciate prevailing planning constraints – and opportunities – and to apply smart city design principles for transport and traffic engineering.
At present, Carmen is leading several high-profile intelligent transport system related projects in Hong Kong, including a free-flow toll system slated for implementation throughout the territory at all major tolled links, and a major tunnel connecting outer areas to urban Kowloon.

Lian Duan is Arup’s Senior Engineer in Transport Consulting, with broad experience in mobility innovations across multi-modal transport systems. Prior to moving to Hong Kong, Lian worked in the United States managing transport planning and engineering projects of various scales. She works with cities and public authorities to create transportation solutions that incorporate urban design, advanced technology and transportation engineering to benefit the local community, while meeting the larger goals of expanding mobility options.
Lian is currently involved on a number of projects requiring policy assessment for the introduction of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV). She provides expertise linked to user-centric design and quantitative assessment through mobility data analysis and modelling. Her core strength is her deep technical expertise and ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
Greg Yager, FAIA
Greg’s career has taken him around the globe, from California to the Midwest, to Baltimore and Washington, London, Hong Kong and now Shanghai. He has worked in small firms, midsize firms and, most recently, with RTKL where he was responsible for the International Planning and Urban Design studio and many of the firm’s global offices, as well. He was the founding president of the AIA Shanghai Chapter and is the Legal Representative of the AIA Shanghai WOFE in China.
Greg is currently a consultant to RTKL for urban design and development.
