Dear Members,

In the second instalment of our Co-X series of online panel discussions on May 28, 2020, we will speak with AIA Hong Kong past-president Peter Basmajian about the evolution of work place design as the nature of work – individual versus collaborative – has progressed. We will also hear from two innovative co-working operators, Jacky Yeung of Desk-one, and Alex Shu of T.H.E Design, who will share different strategies on adapting to this fast-changing landscape and coping with the recent COVID – 19 crisis.

This panel discussion is free for all AIA Hong Kong members, with a maximum of 100 participants. Below are instructions for participating in this event:

  1.   You can use your smartphone, tablet or PC to join. Install the zoom.us application prior to the meeting.
  2.  Please use your real name for registration so that we can credit 2.0 LUs/HSW to you.
  3.  All attendees should mute their audio during the presentation to avoid signal interference.
  4. On this occasion, only the host and panelists will be allowed to speak.
  5. You may, however, type questions in the Q&A box at the bottom of your zoom screen.
  6. The panelists will review your questions and provide responses, time allowing.
  7. The presentation will be recorded.

Speakers’ Profiles

Peter Basmajian, AIA Hong Kong Past-President

Peter Basmajian is a founding partner of Richards Basmajian. He has worked in New York City, Tehran and Cairo, and has lived in Hong Kong since 1981. Prior to establishing his firm with partner David Richards in 1986, he was employed by Foster Associates on the design and construction of the HSBC Headquarters at 1 Queen’s Road Central. He is a Registered Architect in Hong Kong and New York State, a member of the HKIA and RIBA, and served as AIA Hong Kong Chapter President in 2005.

Jacky Yeung, Desk-one

Jacky Yeung is a co-founder of Desk-one, a local boutique co-working space with four locations in Hong Kong. Desk-one is the pioneer of on-demand work and study space that combines the best features of co-working, cafe and library, while charging users only for the actual time they spend at each facility.

Aside from his involvement in Desk-one, Jacky is a finance executive managing global real estate and natural resources private equity investments.

Alex Shu, T.H.E Design

Alex Shu is a design strategist and co-founder of T.H.E Design, a co-working space that provides a collaborative, stimulating environment to foster the development of young architects, designers, and other creative professionals. Together with his co-founder father, Winston Shu, Principal of Integrated Design Associates, Alex leverages their inter-generational experience to help young designers from different disciplines overcome typical start-up challenges as they shape the future of their industries.

Alex received his M.Arch from the University of Southern California and also holds an MBA in Design Thinking from the California College of the Arts. Prior to founding T.H.E Design, Alex worked as an Architectural Designer at Moore Ruble Yudell Architects.

Moderator

Fei F.M. Mui, AIA

Fei received a Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Studies at HKU and her Master of Architecture at UCLA.  Licensed in the US, she has worked in Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Australia, and Japan. In 2015, Fei worked on the GOOGLE PARTNERPLEX in Google Tokyo office as the lead designer. Fei is currently working in the Hong Kong office of Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates.
