Judges' Seminar: West Kowloon Cultural District - Decide For Yourself
11 Nov 2010 , Grand Harbour Ballroom Grand Harbour Hong Kong 23 Oil Street, North Point
Over a three-month public engagement exercise for the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD), the WKCD Authority has conducted a number of public forums to guage the community's views and comments on three Conceptual Plan Options prepared by Foster + Partners, Rocco Design Architects Ltd. and Office for Metropolitan Architecture.

At the Perspective Awards 2010 Judges' Seminar, panelists will review, discuss and debate the WKCD project and the issues it raises.

Discussion topics include:
  • Are there enough open spaces and green spaces?
  • How effective/efficient is the external connectivity of the area to other parts of Hong Kong - is there an adequate transportation system?
  • How should art and cultural programmes be distributed with the area?
  • Should the commercial elements in the area (restaurants, hotels) be selected/designed to highlight Hong Kong's  heritage and identity?
  • How can the public be encouraged to participate in various activities to be held in the area, in order to promote organic growth of the WKCD?

AIA Northwest & Pacific Region Conference: An Emerald Vision
13 Oct 2010 , Eugene, Oregon USA

AIA/Southwestern Oregon invites architecture professionals and their guests from Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Hawaii, Guam/Micronesia, Japan, and Hong Kong to gather in Eugene for the 2010 AIA Northwest and Pacific Region Conference. Dubbed “An Emerald Vision,” the conference will examine the prospects for an architecture that is truly sustainable as we awaken to the realities of climate change, dwindling resources, and the rapid transformation of current professional practice paradigms.

No other region of the Institute comes close to being as geographically and culturally diverse as the Northwest & Pacific Region. This is why there is great value in convening annually as a region to strategize, exchange ideas, network, and simply enjoy each other’s company. There is so much to learn from the multitude of perspectives represented at each AIA Northwest & Pacific Region conference. Join us this October in Eugene. We promise gorgeous fall foliage, innovative thinking, and design excellence. We’ve developed a can’t-miss program with balance and depth –An Emerald Vision
