2017 AIA Hong Kong Honors & Awards Exhibition

The AIA Hong Kong Honors & Awards program celebrates the most outstanding designs submitted by our members each year. It also recognizes the contributions of those individuals and organizations that have demonstrated an ability to raise public awareness of issues relating to architecture and the built environment.

The pop-up exhibition will display all of our members’ submissions in the architecture, interior architecture, urban design and unbuilt projects categories. In addition, students from both the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong will be cited for their talent in architectural studies.

The 2017 Honors and Awards presentations will take place during our 20th Anniversary Cocktail Reception on November 7, 2017. (Click here for details)

We hope to see you at PMQ!

Third Quarterly Meeting – Collaborating with the Community:
Design for the International Public Sector

In order to expand on this year’s theme: AIAHK20++, the Chapter’s third Quarterly Meeting will attempt to reinforce our role in promoting the benefits of working with American practitioners who also have an international perspective. The gathering will feature talks by our visiting Honors and Awards jurors, each of whom will share their experience as an AIA member practicing globally, as well as within the continental US.

The three distinguished Honors and Awards jurors will share their stories as AIA architects collaborating with the public sector in the US and overseas. Influenced by the global economy and the flood of digital information, the speakers will discuss their experiences, methods and challenges in working with different stakeholders. They will demonstrate how their work contributes to the people, cities and countries in which they practice.

AIA Hong Kong 2018 Chapter Election

Dear Members:

As a Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, AIA Hong Kong is obligated to hold Chapter-wide elections each year for the following positions:

Vice President / President-elect 2019

Although these positions are voluntary and unpaid, it is important that qualified individuals contribute their time, experience and energy in whatever capacity they can to ensure that the Chapter continues to serve its members effectively.  The AIA relies heavily on the personal involvement and commitment of its members, so we encourage your participation either as an elected Officer or as a member of a Committee based on your area of interest. Note that self-nominations for these positions are also welcome.

Please click here for further details and send the completed Nomination Form(s) to the Chapter Office by September 7, 2017. Your participation and involvement is greatly appreciated. The Chapter Election will take place at 2017 Annual General Meeting on October 14 at 4:30pm at Miller Theater of Asia Society Hong Kong.

NCARB CEO Michael Armstrong
ARE & NCARB Certification in Hong Kong

Since 2014, ARE candidates residing and working in this region have been able to take the Architect Registration Exam (ARE) in Hong Kong.  AIA Hong Kong worked together with NCARB, Prometrics and various Hong Kong government boards and officials to achieve this long time Chapter goal, which has made it easier for our members here, as well as in Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore and throughout the Asia-Pacific Region to take the exam without having to travel to the U.S. With help from a 2016 emerging professionals grant from the AIA College of Fellows, the Young Architects Group of AIA Hong Kong has been organising ARE study sessions to assist and encourage candidates for licensure, and to provide mentoring opportunities for other, more established architects.  RSVP here.

NCARB CEO Michael Armstrong will return to Hong Kong to meet with AIA members and discuss the ARE 4.0 and 5.0 transition, young professionals’ path to registration (study, sign up, AXP), how AIA firm owners can assist in this process and share other vital information with Chapter members regarding the path to NCARB certification.

Limited spots are available for AIA members outside of Hong Kong to participate in this event via webcast. Please email to inquire.

Thank you to the following organisations for their continuous support of young architects seeking licensure.

2017 3rd Quarter President’s Message

Dear Members & Friends:

It’s been a very challenging but fulfilling 6 months leading the Chapter.  I am glad to report we have already managed to provide more than 18 LU/HSW credits through the various programs we have organized ourselves and in collaboration with partnering organizations.  Thank you and all the members who have been supportive and joined us for the various events, which have generally recorded a high level of attendance.  We will continue to provide nearly a dozen opportunities to earn CES credits during the second half of the year through seminars, building tours and other activities.
