We are moving into an early summer! The heat is on and we certainly hope the same goes for our events and programs! The H Queen’s Building Tour in April 19 was well received, and on May 26 was the first outdoor family oriented Building Tour at Tsing Yi Southwest Leisure Building. An ARE Study Group was held where exchanges were made with our young members. On May 10 our Chapter held the Second Quarterly Meeting at Dyson’s office, where they provided a technical seminar showcasing their science in indoor LED lighting.
We encourage all members to submit their work for this prestigious event, which has become increasingly well known to other professionals and the public.
No physical boards required, only digital files. In addition to sending in USB, please also upload files to dropbox. Please note that the deadline for submission is August 31, 2018 at 5PM and, for any enquiries, please contact email@example.com.
At present, Hong Kong is one of three sites outside of the U.S. where ARE is offered. Our topic will be Programming, Planning, and Practice. Our future presentation will be on ARE 5.0. The study group will be guided by Andrew King, AIA and Vicky Chan, AIA.

Located in the heart of Central, this former Hong Kong Government Headquarters is one of eight historic landmarks recognised by the Conserving Central Initiative, introduced by the HKSAR Government in 2013. After a redesign by Foster + Partners, Design Architect, with Wong and Ouyang, Civil & Structural Engineers, Urbis, Landscape Architect, and Tino Kwan, Lighting Consultant, the building has been transformed into the city’s newest landmark hotel, The Murray, Hong Kong, as the flagship property of Niccolo Hotels.
Designed by Ron Phillips in the 1960s, the building was regarded as an outstanding example of sustainable architecture in its time and has won numerous awards for its groundbreaking, energy-efficient design, including the Energy Efficient Building Award, in 1994. All of the signature features of the original Murray Building, including the facade with its imposing three-storey arches, the vehicle ramp and distinctive recessed windows, have been retained.
The tour will be led by Colin Ward of Foster + Partners and representatives of The Murray, Hong Kong. It will be concluded with a light refreshments host by The Murray, Hong Kong.

Please join us for a fun outing to the Tsing Yi Southwest Leisure Building – a vibrant and landscape-filled sports hub for the community of Tsing Yi. We encourage you to join us with your kids to have fun in the biggest public children’s play room in Hong Kong and invite friends to join us for a chill mini-picnic.
The Hong Kong ASD created this 16,000m² building to become a major community presence in the form of an athletic centre, offering an arena, an outdoor climbing wall, an indoor pool, and children’s playrooms. The richly composed palette of materials, including a folded cement-board façade, black-colored, tilted steel plates, fair-faced concrete and contrasting white walls, provides a vibrant and energetic atmosphere both inside and out. Tiers of open plaza and public lawns permeate the building, further opening it up to the community it serves.
This course will examine LED task and ambient lighting in the contemporary workplace. It will review LED technology, the new advancements that are benefitting office lighting design, the lighting requirements of the modern workplace, and how LED lighting serves these spaces.
