Dear AIA Members and Friends:
I especially look forward to this mid-autumn time of year as the temperature in our part of the world moderates and we transition past the long, hot summer. This time of Lantern Festivals and moon-cakes is full of fond memories about our past and a shared spirit of excitement about what the future may bring.
Our Chapter recently had the pleasure of experiencing that warm feeling at the Grand Opening Celebration held August 21st at our new Office and Gallery space in the PMQ Creative Art Hub. It was a thrill to see so many long time friends and colleagues while reminiscing about the success of our organization over the past 17 years and its bright future ahead.
And, although I had the honor to thank many that night for their generous material donations for our new home and those who designed and created the new space, I would like to add here my heartfelt thank you to our VP/incoming President Sujata Govada, Assoc. AIA our immediate Past President William Lim, FAIA, and our wonderful Administrative team Catherine Wong and Vivian Chen for their extraordinary effort in making the transition to the PMQ. They were supported on the night by Jodie Wong, Wendy Lo, Rebecca Chung and Yammie Mok who also deserve a fond note of thanks for their organizing skills and for working so hard to pull off such a successful Opening Celebration.
Carrying on, the Chapter’s Program Committee will be busy for the rest of this year curating many other interesting events for us all to enjoy.
Clearly, a major highlight of our fall season will be the Asian Cities Symposium to be held on Monday, September 22. This Symposium will feature panel discussions, a cocktail reception and dinner forum, and those who attend will earn 6 Learning Units (HSW).
Please sign up for this event soon. It will be a rare opportunity to meet and engage personally with Helene Dreiling FAIA, 2014 AIA President, who will be our honored guest speaker, and Christine Loh, Hon. AIA (HK), Under Secretary for the Environment, HKSAR Government along with a panel of notable international Architects and Urban Designers. Together with your participation, we will all enjoy a stimulating series of discussions about the future of five leading Asian Cities: Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore.
In the meantime, please remember to check our website frequently at www.aiahk.org to keep informed about upcoming local and regional Chapter events as well as a number of other related activities which we support.
With warm regards,
2014 President – AIA Hong Kong Chapter – Christian Low, AIA
