2017 3rd Quarter President’s Message

Dear Members & Friends:

It’s been a very challenging but fulfilling 6 months leading the Chapter.  I am glad to report we have already managed to provide more than 18 LU/HSW credits through the various programs we have organized ourselves and in collaboration with partnering organizations.  Thank you and all the members who have been supportive and joined us for the various events, which have generally recorded a high level of attendance.  We will continue to provide nearly a dozen opportunities to earn CES credits during the second half of the year through seminars, building tours and other activities.

Since the beginning of the year, we have also embarked on a journey to explore ways to enhance our Chapter’s management processes and services.  For example, we have introduced online payment option for event registration, a practice that has long been adopted by other professional and trade associations.  We have also updated the Honors & Awards design submission requirement to become paperless, hoping to improve processing efficiency and environmental friendliness.  In addition, we have also established an Instagram platform to promote past design award winning projects.

The highlights for the third quarter will include: in July, our popular advanced technology series will feature the Shimao Wonderland Intercontinental Hotel, or Quarry Hotel, located at a stunning site but requires technical innovation to overcome design challenges.  In August, our YAG have invited NCARB CEO to share with current and future members on the latest update relating to ARE, AXP and NCARB certification.  In September, we will organize our 3rd Quarterly Meeting featuring three distinguished FAIA architects from Tokyo, New York and Washington DC who also serve as this year’s Honors and Awards design jurors.

Finally, we are glad to announce 2017 Annual General Meeting will take place on Saturday, October 14 at 4:30pm at Miller Theater of Asia Society Hong Kong.  The process to elect 2018 officers has already begun with the call for expression of interest from Members.  Your participation and involvement is greatly appreciated.  Please also save the date, November 7, for our 20th Anniversary Cocktail Reception at PMQ Marketplace during which the results of this year’s Honors & Awards will also be announced and celebrated.

I appreciate very much your continue support for the Chapter!
