AIA Hong Kong Building Tour – T · PARK

Please join us for a building tour of 2017 AIA Hong Kong Citation Award recipient, the T-Park in Tuen Mun.  Coach bus has been arranged.

T · PARK is the largest sludge treatment plant in the world with capacity to incinerate 2,000 tons of human waste each day. It reduces the volume of incoming material by 90% . Operated by 110 staff, this facility protects the natural environment by eliminating discharges into the sea – while generating power for 4,000 households and heat for three pools located in the spa next door. A desalination unit is used to meet freshwater requirements, and 1,000 trees were planted nearby as part of a carbon compensation program.

T · PARK occupies a 7 hectare site symbolizing the “journey from waste to energy” and was designed by internationally renowned French architect Claude Vasconi (1940 – 2009) with the Hong Kong Environmental Bureau. The streamlined, wave shape design of the building was inspired by the surrounding sea and hills, and makes the best use of sunlight, natural ventilation and green roofs to minimize energy consumption. The building has been certified as Provisional Platinum by Hong Kong Green Building Council.
