For nearly 30 years, the AIA Hong Kong Chapter’s annual Honors and Awards Program has served as Asia’s premier platform for celebrating our members’ exceptional achievements in architecture, interiors, urban design, and unbuilt projects. Our distinguished international juries—including past Pritzker Prize juror Yung Ho Chang and renowned architect Lyndon Neri of Neri & Hu—conduct thorough, multi-phased evaluations that set our program apart, providing award recipients with credibility that extends internationally.
 
As early proponents of sustainable design, we introduced our Sustainability Award in 2007 and have since aligned our evaluation criteria with the AIA Framework for Design Excellence, ensuring that sustainability, equity, resilience, and well-being are integral to every recognition we grant.
 
Building on this foundation, we expanded our reach in 2023 by introducing the Open International category, welcoming licensed architects who have not yet joined the AIA while fostering stronger connections within the global design community.

Entries must be submitted according to one of the following categories. These entry categories are used to clarify the different entry requirements and to focus the jury on the broad and diverse areas of practices.

The Honors & Awards Committee oversees the following awards:

Honor and Merit Awards to AIA member architects for excellence in architectural design, interior design and urban design of of built works or unbuilt projects
within the Chapter’s assigned territory of Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area

Firm Awards to AIA member-owned firms for sustained architectural achievement while based in the Chapter’s territory for not less than ten years

Distinguished Service Awards to AIA member architects for notable service to the Chapter and architectural profession in the Chapter’s territory

Scholastic Awards to outstanding graduates for excellence in the study of architecture at a professionally accredited degree programme of a university in the Chapter’s territory

The Nominating Committee oversees the following awards:

Honorary Affiliate Membership: to individuals of esteemed character who are not professionally eligible for AIA membership for distinguished service to the architectural profession and/or built environment in the Chapter’s territory

Community Citations: to individuals or organizations for distinguished achievement in promoting the value of architecture in society and fostering public awareness of issues related to the built environment

Fellowship: to nominate AIA member architects in the Chapter to the College of Fellows in recognition of sustained professional achievements whether in architectural design, practice, service or education
