Merit Award in Interior Architecture – Renaissance Zhuhai Hotel by CL3 Architects

Renaissance Zhuhai Hotel is located in a former fishing village in China and takes inspiration from the structure of the fishing vessels. The main lobby area includes the reception area and two levels above, served by two sets of stairs and escalators that connects to the dining and ballroom floors. Unifying the linear and elongated lobby becomes the design challenge and is solved by the use of 3 separate reception islands in front of a fish scale-inspired wall relief. The Wall relief feature connects the reception with the cage-like timber features that wrap the escalators and stairs, creating a contemporary interior architecture that takes a reference to the Chinese timber fishing boat structure. The streamlined nautical language continues onto the guestroom, where zen simplicity and western comfort are the key design considerations.
