Shenzhen Metro Line 16 connects the city center with the North-East suburbs, where local villages and neighborhoods are deeply influenced by Hakka culture. To harness this cultural richness, the Shenzhen government and Shenzhen Metro Corp. organized an open competition under the theme “Sunshine+.”
The competition consisted of six sectors: one general design for all stations and five feature stations. Our team embraced the Sunshine+ concept by integrating nature, daylight, and social space to honor the local Hakka heritage. We focused on creating vibrant, welcoming environments that reflect the surrounding culture. As a result, our team successfully designed several featured stations, including Pingshanwei Station, Shuanglong Station, Technology University Station, and Universiade Station. Through these designs, we aim to create transit spaces that not only serve functional purposes but also celebrate and enhance the rich cultural tapestry of Shenzhen’s North-East suburbs.
