Young Architects Fellowship Dialogue: Heritage + Architecture
The event will be held on Saturday, July 5, from 2:00 – 6:00 PM at the Sun Museum, when the Asian Cultural Council Hong Kong will award the inaugural Hsin Chong Foundation Young Architects Fellowship to Cynthia Leung, in partnership with AIA Hong Kong.
Cynthia will spend two months in Japan conducting research on traditional craftsmanship and local design, under the mentorship of renowned heritage architecture expert Tomoaki Tanaka, Professor, Department of Architecture, Meiji University.
This will be an opportunity to explore heritage architecture issues with Cynthia and Professor Tanaka, as well as to learn more about the value of research fellowships for young architects with insight from the 2025 fellowship jury members. You will also get a chance to tour the Sun Museum’s new space with Otto Ng, Assoc. AIA, of LAAB Architects.

Cynthia Leung, RIBA, has experience designing institutional, hospitality and private buildings of various scales in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. She is currently a Project Lead and member of the transdisciplinary Scandinavian design firm Snøhetta, while also serving as a guest design critic at The University of Hong Kong where she obtained her M.Arch. degree with Distinction in 2018.
Passionate about community art installations, Cynthia received the Design for Asia Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award in 2018 and was a guest speaker at Design Shanghai 2023.
Tomoaki Tanaka, AIA, is a Professor of Architecture at Meiji University, actively engaged in education and research on architectural design, site design and architectural planning. He served as Deputy Director of the Headquarters of International Collaboration from 2012 to 2016 and as a President’s Staff from 2016 to 2020.
A principal architect at FORMS, Tanaka is a registered architect in Japan and New York and is a member of the AIA Japan Board of Directors. He received a Merit Award from AIA Japan in 2008 and an Honorable Mention in 2018.
