DESCRIPTION
Between 2010 and 2030, 85 billion square meters of new and rebuilt buildings will be constructed in cities worldwide (source: UN Habitat). While such development will place extreme stress on our climate and resources, built environment professionals have the greatest opportunity to improve the efficiency of cities and to reduce carbon emissions related to buildings. Sean Quinn of AIA Hong Kong, Ir Conrad Wong of the HK Green Building Council (HKGBC) and Dr. Benny Chow, member of the International Round Table of the US Green Building Council (USGBC), will explain how design practitioners can become more engaged in sustainable design and carbon neutral urbanization. They will discuss various programs – including the AIA 2030 Commitment, the HK 3030 Campaign, LEED v.4 and the respective methods and resources involved in the design of high-performance buildings. Following the presentation, a panel discussion will be led by Dr. Thomas Tang of AECOM on the challenges presented to architects by local and international markets
