With the emergence of more and more new cultural institutions and exhibition spaces in the city, how does an auction house create a unique experience for both collectors and the public? What is the role of the designer in creating an environment that both emphasises the quality of the artwork and adds value to what is on display?
Instant Garden is a new concept for the experience of 20th and 21st century art, featuring a selection of sculptures from Christie’s 2021 Hong Kong Autumn Auctions. The spatial concept behind Instant Garden is the work of architect Su Chang and it features 11 artworks curated by Christie’s from their 2021 Hong Kong Autumn Auctions.
Join us for a guided tour of this exciting project, led by Su Chang, AIA, with Jacky Ho, Head of Evening Sale at Christie’s, on Saturday, November 27.

What We Learnt
Instant Garden by Su Chang, AIA, rethinks exhibition design in indoor setting. The show displays artworks in a more human environment with works of Henry Moore, Hajime Sorayama, Ren Zhe, François-Xavier Lalane, and many others. Surrounded artworks are pulled into the garden by virtual of strategically planned sight lines and or reflections, creating a strong dialogue between the instant garden and adjacent galleries. The synergy between the artworks and spaces allows viewers to enjoy art in a garden setting.
