Dear Members
AIA International Spring Conference Watch Party

You are invited to join this event and meet our speakers in person at the Chapter Office on the evening of March 20th, when light refreshments and drinks will also be served.

Smart Urban Farm: Case Studies of Yuanye Spring and K-farm (1.0 LU/HSW)
– Vicky Chan

Smart urban farms have emerged as a vital method for promoting environmental sustainability within urban settings. These farms serve as educational platforms, fostering knowledge about food security, agricultural technology, circular economy principles, and sustainable practices among future farmers. Despite their small-scale, these organic farms can create a thriving habitat for local insects, offering a sanctuary within densely populated environments. Vicky Chan’s presentation will explore the various techniques he has employed to reduce the carbon footprint associated with urban farm construction, emphasizing the important role of such farms in safeguarding the ecosystem and promoting long-term climate resilience.

Innovation and Technology: Intertwined Trails (1.0 LU)
– Chris Lepine

From centuries old advances in drawing technology to today’s CAD systems that facilitate ever more ambitious designs to future algorithmic and AI capabilities, technology and innovation have always been intertwined.

Trailblazing architecture relies on the constant innovation of graphic representation, digital tool manipulation, material performance, sustainable building components and novel fabrication methods.  Chris Lepine will present a variety of projects and design methods that are in use at Zaha Hadid Architects, where technology and the spirit of innovation have converged and become an essential component in the design and delivery of the firm’s many pioneering projects.
