Join us for a curator-team-led visit to see Projecting Future Heritage: A Hong Kong Archive, the 2025 Hong Kong contribution to la Biennale di Venezia by Ying Zhou AIA, Fai Au, and Wing Yuen Assoc. AIA, co-organized with Docomomo Hong Kong,. This visit with the curatorial team and exhibitors will take us behind the scenes, enabling us to better understand the motivation behind, and journey of realizing, the Hong Kong submission to the Biennale.
Presented in the form of an archive, the exhibition will bring together a selection of overlooked Hong Kong public buildings, largely from the post-war era to the turn of the millennium. From co-op housing to our many municipal services buildings, from composite structures to curb-scale infrastructure, these meticulously researched types have not, to date, been awarded heritage status – yet technically, programmatically and climatically, they each manifest the civic aspirations of the era.
Many were designed by the first-generation of Hong Kong architects, including Chung Wah Nan, Wong and Ouyang, Dennis Lau, and P&T, as well as others from the Public Works Department. Garnering international accolades for the wisdom that many of these structures embodied, and because demolition is still taking place, this exhibition hopes to bring local recognition to the intrinsic value of these buildings.
