Dear Members
Cultural Landscape of Bangkok
Join this excursion to explore the vibrant city of Bangkok, where a variety of contemporary design practices have created modernist architecture and landscapes in this multifaceted urban center.
The 4-day event will take us to modernist landmarks such as the Kasetsart University Physics Building, the Mahidol University Faculty of Science, and to the Din Daeng Estate, as well as through hip neighborhoods like Thonglor. Experience the interplay between city life and the natural world at places such as Chulalongkorn University Centenary Park, Thammasat University Urban Rooftop Farm, and the canals and waterways that meander throughout this picturesque city, connecting its cultural and historical sites. The event will give attendees a unique perspective on how Bangkok’s architecture, urban planning and landscapes reflect its rich history, cultural diversity, and modern aspirations – with several important project visits.
The 4-day excursion will focus on the following themes:
- Modernist architecture
- Urban and landscape ecology
- Contemporary design practices
Conversations with local and international practitioners will (tentatively) include:
- Jakub Gardolinski and Savitri Paisalwattana – PAGAA
- Chatpong Chuenrudeemol – CHAT Architects
- Twitee Vajrabhaya Teparkum and Amata Luphaiboon – Department of Architecture
- Kotchakorn Voraakhom – Landprocess
- Russell Kim, Chief Design & Innovation Officer – Frasers Property Holdings Thailand
- And more!
