Dear Members

The Empire State Building is New York City’s most beloved landmark.

The building has a roof height of 1,250 feet (380 m) and stands a total of 1,454 feet (443.2 m) tall, including its antenna. It was the world’s highest until construction of the World Trade Center in 1970 but, following the latter building’s destruction in 2001, the Empire State Building reverted to being the city’s tallest skyscraper – until 2012. As of 2022, the building is the seventh-tallest in New York City, the ninth-tallest in the United States, the 54th-tallest in the world, and the sixth-tallest freestanding structure in the Americas.

The Empire State Building recently underwent an extensive, US$165 Million, 4-year renovation, with improvements to, among other things, the air conditioning and waterproofing, and renovations to the observation deck and main lobby.

As Otis had engineered and installed the Empire State Building’s original elevators in 1931 – the fastest and most advanced of their day – eighty years later Empire State Realty Trust entrusted the company with the system’s modernization. In this webinar, representatives from Otis will walk us through what was one of the largest and most complex modernization projects undertaken in its 169-year history.
