In this webinar, a panel of BIM experts from Hong Kong and San Francisco will share with us the benefits of BIM applications in their presentation titled From Digitalization to Effective Collaboration – Building Value in the Built Environment. They will cover a host of topics including Digital Practice Journey and Maturity, 4D Phase Planning, Collaboration Science, Building Consensus and Digital Twin with open BIM and open GIS.

The Speakers

Calvin Kam, FAIA, PhD, PE, LEED AP, is the Founder/CEO of Strategic Building Innovation, bimSCORE, BIM Supporters Group, and PlanMeetDone.com—the “GPS Navigator” for any enterprise or project team charting a course for construction innovation.

A licensed architect as well as an engineer in the USA, Dr. Kam is an Adjunct Professor at the Stanford University Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE) where he specializes in strategic innovation such as Management Scorecards, Building Information Modeling, Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), Sustainable Developments and Smart Cities Evaluation.

Dr. Kam has served as the former AIA National Co-Chairman of the Center for Integrated Practice and former AIA National Chairman of the Technology Knowledge Community.

Jon Berkoe, is a construction innovation consultant and Senior Industry Advisor to SBI. He was most recently Vice President and Director of Digital Delivery at MWH Constructors, where he was responsible for leading the strategic deployment of digital construction innovation across water/wastewater treatment projects in the US.

Jim Bedrick, FAIA, is the founder and principal of AEC Process Engineering and Senior Industry Advisor with Strategic Building Innovation where he provides expertise on collaboration techniques and AECO industry needs, processes, and contract issues.

Tony Rinella, Senior Director at SBI, furthers their mission to optimize value, functionality, eco-responsibility and the well-being of built environments worldwide by helping designers, builders, owners and government leaders improve operations outcomes through data-informed decision making, target-based metrics and technology-empowered collaboration.

Kayla Wong, Associate at SBI. Before joining the firm, she was involved in research and prototyping of innovative operation models, working closely with end users to rethink and reengineer operation flows. She also designs digital and mobile projects to deliver online solutions that drive better customer experiences.

Joy Li, Senior Project Manager at SBI, is a chartered surveyor who has worked in the real estate industry for more than a decade, previously with several major Hong Kong developers. As a result of several joint venture projects, she has maintained a close working relationship with both the URA and MTRC.

Min Song, Senior Associate at SBI, received a PhD in Construction Engineering and Management from Stanford University. Professionally, he has worked on airports, oil and gas facilities, and high-rise buildings in Korea, USA, UAE, Kuwait, Germany, Sweden, and Peru.



The Moderator

Martin Riese, AIA – Canadian-born Architect with 30 years of professional experience. He was a Project Director in the Hong Kong and London offices of Foster and Partners Architects, a Managing Director of the Gehry Technologies BIM consultancy, and a Partner at the façade consultancy, Front.

He has variously held Visiting, Adjunct, and Assistant Professorships in the School of the Built Environment at the University of Salford, the Department of Building and Real Estate at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the Department of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong. He is a Director of the Hong Kong-based design and construction industry consultancy FulcrumSC Limited, which provides consultancy services to local and international firms and businesses.
