About the Speaker

Xi CHEN
Founding Principal, ATELIER XI

Xi is a member of the American Institute of Architects and a Registered Architect in New York State. He received his Master of Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a B.Arch. from Tsinghua University in Beijing. From 2009 to 2017, he worked at Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) in Copenhagen and Steven Holl Architects in New York.

In 2017, Xi founded his practice, Atelier XI, in New York and is currently based in Shenzhen, China. His design work has been featured globally in prominent publications, including Architectural Review, Architectural Record, Harvard Design Magazine, Domus, Wallpaper, Frame, Architectural Digest, Dezeen, and ArchDaily, among others. He and Atelier XI have received numerous accolades, such as the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Awards, WA China Architecture Awards, ArchDaily New Practice Award, and FRAME Award, and have been finalists for the Architectural Review Emerging Award and Dezeen Awards.

ABOUT ATELIER XI

Founded in 2017 by Xi Chen in New York City, Atelier XI is an architectural design practice currently based in Shenzhen, China. Our work focuses on public and cultural projects at various scales, and we are attentive to the needs of diverse communities. The studio aspires to create spaces that bring unique poetry and depth to contemporary urban and rural environments. We believe that each space, grand or small, offers a clue to the vastness of our world and serves as a testimony to the beauty of everyday life. By nurturing these quiet and resilient spaces one at a time, we envision architecture that flourishes with life and stories.
