Hong Kong’s historic Fanling golf course houses three 18-hole courses, the Old Course, the New Course and the Eden Course. The oldest of the three was built in 1911 and encompasses spectacular trees and biodiversity. It is also home to many ancestral graves, some dating to 460 years ago.

Fanling Golf Course has also hosted the Hong Kong Open Tournament since 1959 and, in 2020, was awarded Audubon Golf Sanctuary status as an environmentally-friendly, world-class course.

Today, however, 30 hectares of the 172-hectare Old Course, may be subject to government resumption for public housing that would include several 150m high towers and a population of 33,600.

This tour will be led by Timothy Peirson-Smith. Tim graduated with a BSc. in Natural Environmental Science from the University of Sheffield and started his career studying the environmental impact of mega projects such as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link between the UK and France. Tim subsequently moved to Hong Kong and now runs Executive Counsel Limited which advises on public affairs and government relations. He is also the Vice Chairman of The Royal Geographical Society – Hong Kong.

Tim will lead our members around the Old Course on golf buggies to introduce the rare flora and fauna it holds. We will also visit several Grade 2 and Grade 3 conservation sites, bee hives, and the butterfly garden.

Light refreshments will be served at the end of the tour when guests can relax and enjoy the picturesque view of this lovely course, which is now under imminent threat.

• Please arrive at the designated location 15 minutes before the program begins. (by 8:45 AM if you are taking the shuttle bus/ by 9:45 AM at the Golf Club)
• The tour will be postponed if the Yellow Rainstorm Signal and/or Typhoon Signal No. 3 or above is effective 3 hours prior to 10:00 AM when the tour begins.
