The State Theatre (originally known as the Empire Theatre) in North Point was built in 1952. The Antiquities Advisory Board (AAB) of the HKSAR named the structure a Grade 1 historic building in 2017 after a long and controversial debate as to its architectural and historical merit. In particular, its unique parabolic concrete roof trusses (the first of their kind in Asia) deserve much attention. The developer who recently secured ownership of the building has now committed to an adaptive reuse / repurposing of the theatre into a future Hong Kong cultural landmark.
This is a guided tour of the installation by New World Development on the history of State Theatre. Please note this is NOT a tour of the building itself.
As there are only 20 places available for this tour (10 persons per session), please RSVP (email@example.com) with your full name and AIA membership number by 5:00 pm on Sunday, May 2, 2021 (maximum of 1 ticket per registrant), first come first served. Priority will be given to those who did not join the State Theatre tour in March. If you have any questions, contact the Chapter Office at firstname.lastname@example.org / 2882-6011.
This tour is exclusively for AIA Hong Kong members, and each attendee will receive 1.5 LUs/HSW.
We look forward to seeing you there!
