LUH: 2.0 LUs/HSW The Jockey Club Innovation Tower is home to PolyU's School of Design and is the new driving force in the development of Hong Kong as a design hub in Asia. The Tower is located at the northeastern tip of the university campus. Construction work began in 2009 and the whole project was completed in August, 2013. It has 15,000 square meters of net floor area and can accommodate about 1,800 staff and students. It houses a lecture hall, 10 classrooms, design studios and workshops, as well as exhibition spaces and a communal viewing lounge. Simon Yu, Associate of Zaha Hadid Architects Mr. Simon Yu is an Associate at Zaha Hadid Architects. Having initially joined the company in 1995 he has been an extensive contributor over a series of signature urban and commercial scale competitions and commissions including; the winning international proposal for the Thames Water Habitable Bridge (London), the Mind Zone in the Greenwich Millennium Dome (London) and the exhibition ‘Wunschmaschine Welterfindung’ for the Kunsthalle in Vienna, Austria. In 2010, Simon led the ZHA team to complete the award winning Guangzhou Opera House in China, and more recently ‘The Innovation Tower’ at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Simon currently heads Zaha Hadid Architects' regional base and its and projects in Hong Kong and Guangzhou. He is currently the Project Director for the new ‘Changsha Meixihu International Culture & Arts Centre’ leading the design and management of a large-scale cultural development in China, and takes an active role managing new competitions and projects in the region.
