Join us for a short, guided walking tour of Kai Tak Sports Park.The Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP) covers 28-hectares and is a fully integrated sports, leisure and entertainment destination that will complement the redevelopment of the old Kai Tak International Airport. The park features a 50,000-seat Main Stadium with a retractable roof, an Indoor Sports Centre with the flexibility to host community events of up to 10,000 spectators, and a Public Sports Ground with a capacity of 5,000. Extensive public open spaces for retail and harbor front dining will also be provided.Scheduled to open in early 2025, the Kai Tak Sports Park will become the most important athletic infrastructure development in Hong Kong, and will help achieve three broad objectives – to promote amateur athletics in the community, to support elite sporting events and to make Hong Kong a hub for major international sporting competitions.

About the Speakers
Ismael Merchan

Ismael is a highly skilled project architect with more than 13 years’ architectural experience. He joined Populous in 2019 and is based in the Hong Kong office where his key responsibilities include the design development and construction coordination of the KTSP Public Sports Ground and the Indoor Sports Centre. These two venues are focused on increasing community engagement, as well as integrating retail and wellness facilities as part of the Government’s Sport for All brief.
Ismael is also interested in E-sports, motorsports, the metaverse, new technologies and stadia, which keeps him engaged with the latest trends and enables him to bring innovative ideas to his projects. In addition to his architectural work, Ismael also has a passion for architectural photography and aerial videography.
Janice Lau

Janice joined Populous in 2019, fulfilling her aspirations to work with a global firm specialising in sports architecture and design. Prior to joining the firm, she had over five years of design coordination experience in various retail and transport orientated developments, and mixed use projects across China. Her main responsibilities include architectural design, design development, project coordination and project management.
Janice obtained her Bachelor of Architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture – University College London, where she also completed her Masters in Architecture.

With 20+ years of experience in the Coil & Extrusion industry, Shu Li has dedicated his career to architectural coatings. He has served as technical leader for coil and extrusion coatings in Shanghai since 2011, managing color-match efforts and new product development. As the Sherwin-Williams Commercial Director, he is in charge of technical support for all coil and extrusion customers on issues pertaining to electrostatic applications. Shu’s inventive approach to coatings produced Acrylicoat, a one-coat acrylic system that offers excellent, long-lasting (AAMA 2603) performance.
Shu holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the Ryerson Polytechnic University.

He has profound knowledge about the appropriate selection of materials to achieve optimum building appearance. Liangliang has worked in Hong Kong and Macao, as well as on overseas curtain wall projects.
