Dear Members

The Sherwin-Williams Company (NYSE: SHW) is a global leader in the development, manufacture, distribution and sale of paints, coatings and related products to professional, industrial, commercial and retail customers. Founded in 1866 by Henry Sherwin and Edward Williams, Sherwin-Williams has a record of more than 150 years of growth, creativity and innovation. With global headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio, Sherwin-Williams® branded products are sold through a chain of more than 5,000 company-operated stores and branches, as well as through leading mass merchandisers, home centers, independent paint dealers, hardware stores, automotive retailers and industrial distributors. SHW also supplies a broad range of products and solutions for the construction, industrial, packaging and transportation markets in more than 120 countries around the world.

He Museum of Art (HEM) is located in Shunde, Foshan, Guangdong Province. It is a non-profit private art museum initiated by the He Jianfeng family and designed by Tadao Ando. It totals 16,000 square meters in area with an exhibition space of approximately 8,000 square meters. HEM features contemporary art – both modern Chinese and international works – and hopes to become a hub of communication between western and Asian artists as they explore cross-cultural values.

This full day event offers attendees access to the newly established Sherwin-Williams R&D Center in Shunde, in the morning, when members will learn about the firm’s latest paint product, Emulate™, via a collection of printed metal coatings for product and design professionals. The coatings have replicated and even enhanced the look of natural building materials such as wood, stone and weathered metals and, by utilizing a rotogravure printing process, the desired looks of natural materials can now be applied to metal building exteriors in a vast offering of color-ways.

In the afternoon, participants will join a guided tour led by docents from the He Museum who will explain how Ando’s design incorporates his signature use of slick concrete, while also incorporating natural elements such as light, water and wind in support of the theme of “harmony” throughout the building. It is particularly notable that the design of the museum vastly cuts out thermal radiation and achieves a rate of energy conservation as high as 50.04%.
