Join us for an exclusive tour of Benevolence House, the award-winning teaching block at St. Stephen’s College in Stanley. Designed by Philip Liao & Partners, Benevolence House won a 2022 AIA Hong Kong Merit Award in Architecture for its innovative design and sustainable features.

During the tour, Philip Liao will guide us through the master planning and overall design of the building, showcasing how it connects the upper and lower campuses of the College and blends the new with the old.

We will also learn about the building’s many sustainable features, including a self-sufficient photovoltaic system, sun-shading fins, cross-ventilated and naturally lit spaces, and the use of sustainable building materials and furniture. And, we’ll discover how these features benefit both the end-users and the environment.

The tour also includes a visit to the campus’ historic buildings, where their history and conservation concerns will be displayed and discussed. This will be a unique opportunity for you to learn about the school’s legacy and to see how it has evolved over time.

The Architect

Philip Liao established Philip Liao and Partners, a dedicated, forward thinking, energetic and professional design studio in 2002. The firm combines a wealth of international talent and experience in commercial, residential, institutional, hospitality and community service projects. Philip first attended Eton College and later received his architecture degree from Cornell University. He has more than 30 years of experience in the field of architecture, planning and interior design, having practiced in North America, Europe and Asia.

The firm has been working with St. Stephen’s College and Preparatory School for more than a decade, creating meaningful additions by establishing an understanding of each building’s context and maintaining an ongoing dialogue with the end-users.
