About the Speakers
Jason Chen
Associate and Computational Designer; APAC Region Computational Design Skills Leader, Arup
Jason Chen leads Arup’s Digital Design team in mainland China and Hong Kong, combining vast expertise in engineering, sustainability, and digital integration to create innovative solutions through advanced workflows and tools. He has led the digital transformation of numerous master planning, infrastructure, and architecture and engineering projects, and constantly explores new boundaries, manages AI-driven initiatives, and steers digital transformation within the firm.
Jason oversees multidisciplinary teams focused on computational and data-driven approaches to engineering design, and has launched a number of products, including DeepEnergy (AI energy prediction), AID-Struct (intelligent structural design) and Arup InForm (generative design).
For clients, he integrates AI to work alongside architects in concept and scheme design with a data-driven approach to generate insights that inform decision-making, and also leads the development of AI design platforms.
Ka Kit Chiu
Computational Designer and Architectural Researcher, Mithun
Based in Seattle, Chiu works at Mithun, where he integrates AI, computational design, and data-driven workflows into architectural practice. Originally from Hong Kong, he holds a Bachelor of Architecture with a Minor in Applied Computer Science from Woodbury University and a Master of Science in Architecture (Design Technology) from the University of Washington.
Throughout his career, Chiu has worked in architecture firms, research environments, and technology startups, including NBBJ, Anand Devarajan Architecture, and Zenerate.ai. His work focuses on applying emerging technologies—including generative AI, machine learning, simulation, and computational design—to improve design workflows, building performance, and decision-making throughout the design process.
Chiu’s research has explored topics ranging from circadian lighting and environmental simulations to AI-assisted evaluations of design impacts on human well-being. His work has been exhibited at the Getty Center and recognized through awards from many organizations, including AIA Los Angeles, AIA San Fernando Valley, and the ACEtech+ NYC Hackathon. In addition to professional practice, he also serves as a lecturer and final reviewer for the University of Washington AI Research Studio and mentors emerging designers through GoVally.
As both a practitioner and researcher, Chiu is interested in how AI can augment creativity, accelerate design exploration, and reshape the future of architectural practice. He is passionate about merging new technologies with design thinking to create healthier, more adaptive, and more resilient built environments.
